Alice McCall presented a fun and flirty collection with her trademark embroidery and twist on folk chic. Entitled ‘Babooshka’, McCall used Budapest’s famous antiquated stain glass windows as a starting point for her 2012/2013 collection. From their she found inspiration in needlepoints, blossoming embroideries, delicate lcases and even cheery Russian babushka folls. To fit the theme, models had cute Heidi braids. Make up was dutch inspired with blue eyeshadow, rosy cheeks with the middle of the lips stained a dark pink.
Each outfit was accessorised with pointy toed, backless metallic pumps, metallic pin heels, head scarves and statement jewellery in vibrant gem tones. The colour palette ranged from powered lavender, marigold yellow, raspberry coulis, cheery tomato red and pastel mandarin.
The standout piece was a metallic gold dress with sheer short sleeves and large peplum with pencil skirt. As with many shows this MBFWA, the peplum was a key trend in McCall’s collection, her point of difference being embroidery on the peplum and the swirlling shape.
McCall presented a strong collection with a lot of must-have pieces for this print/summer. Finding the perfect balance between her distinct style but also bringing something fresh.
