One of the movie calendar’s most glamourous events of the year, Cannes Film Festival is just as well known for its red carpet style as it is for its films. This year, world famous jewellery house and official partners of Cannes, Chopard, will be creating a range of ethically, sustainable pieces for the Green Carpet Project, to be worn by some of the movie industry’s biggest stars. Chopard’s involvement with the Green Carpet Project is part of its commitment to support responsibility in business. As part of this commitment, Chopard launched The Journey to Sustainable Luxury program in partnership with Eco-Age and its creative director Livia Firth.

Chopard is the latest brand to create designs for the Green Carpet Collection, joining some of the world’s most celebrated designers such as Christopher Bailey from Burberry, Christopher Kane, Erdem, Roland Mouret and Victoria Beckham, who are supporters of the project.

Chopard’s designs for the Green Carpet Project have already been worn at the Golden Globes by Academy Award and Golden Globes winner Cate Blanchett. Blanchett teamed the dazzling creations with a timeless Armani Couture gown.

Last year they became the first luxury jewellery company to support the Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM) which works with small mining towns in Columbia to ensure ethical and sustainable luxury. Chopard uses the diamond from these mines to create exclusive pieces for the Green Carpet Collection. They also work with ARM to support the local miners, providing social welfare, education and training, while protecting the natural resources and environment. Talking about their work with ARM, Co-President of Chopard Karl Friedrich Scheufele said “Over a thousand families will benefit through social, environmental and training provision to help them improve their productivity and practices and to thrive sustainably in a complex corner of the world.”

Speaking about the importance of sustainability in their business, Caroline Scheufele, Co-President and Artistic Director of Chopard said “As a century old, family-run business, we are very aware of our responsibilities in our journey to sustainable luxury. It is not an easy journey, but it is the right one. The Journey is the start of a very exciting multi-year program that will ensure we are working towards our goal of sustainable jewellery.”
