Made popular in the stylish city of LA, blow dry bars have become all the rage for the women of Los Angeles. The Blowout Bar in Toorak have now brought the exciting concept to the streets of Melbourne, offering the simple service of blow dries and styles, rather than cuts and colour, which is perfect for the busy women of today. Whether you have a special occasion, or just want to make sure your hair looks great on a weekly basis, there is really no excuse to treat yourself to a blow dry. Rather than hoping that your regular hairdresser can fit you in for a quick appointment between their long cut and colour appointments, The Blowout Bar has a team of professional hair stylists who can fit into your busy schedule to ensure your hair always looks polished and prepped.
We caught up with manager of The Blowout Bar Simone Van Haltren to find out more about this exciting concept, and the hottest hair trends you need to try this season.
We are loving the concept behind The Blowout Bar! Can you tell us more about why you have chosen to focus on just styling and not cuts and colour?
Yes it is a great concept! There is definitely a need in the market for a style only salon as women want to look and feel good all the time. Women want a quick, easy and affordable luxury service, and we offer that!
Can you tell us a bit about your experience and how you’ve come to manage The Blowout Bar?
I have been in the hair industry for 10 years and I have always seemed to have found myself in leaderships roles in previous salons. When I was approached with the opportunity to be apart of The Blowout Bar I jumped at the chance! I knew that starting such a new business concept from the ground up would be a challenge, however we have been perceived so well by the public that it has been nothing but fun and rewarding to watch the salon grow.
What are the hottest hair trends you’ve seen this season?
The hottest hair trends this season – the “done, but un-done look. “ Meaning- women want their hair styled without it looking too neat or too perfect. The Lara Bingle look is very hot right now! Braids are also so popular. Fishtail braids, crown braids and messy tousled braiding looks are really on trend.
Where do you find your hair inspiration from?
My number one source for finding hair inspiration would be the internet. There is so much content and endless amounts of images and blogs that help keep me up to date with fashion trends. I tend to look up fashion events mainly from London, at the moment I love the grungy, yet sophisticated looks from Kate Moss, Sienna Miller and Cara Delevingne.
You chose to use Evo hair products at The Blowout Bar. Can you tell us why you chose to use Evo and the best, and what the must have products from the range are?
I chose EVO products as they are Australian made and owned, free of all the harsh chemicals found in most haircare, affordable for the consumer and most importantly the products do what they say they will do! The must haves are the dry shampoo – water killer, haze volumising powder for extra lift and end doctor to seal your ends and give your hair ultimate protection from heat and free radicals.
What tips do you have for maintaining a blowdry?
Sleep on a silk pillow slip, use a shower cap, use dry shampoo and get yourself a good bristle and tangle teezer brush! Twist and clip your hair up at night, in the morning release the clip, spray in dry shampoo and then brush out !
You offer a great service where a group or wedding can book out the salon and enjoy tea and champagne while your team works their magic. Why do you think this is great way to celebrate a special occasion with your friends?
Absolutely! Our salon is a perfect space for any event. The salon is great for a wedding party and a hens day as we can seat 9 guests at a time with champagne, tea and coffee, good music, chick flicks, luxury hair treatments and highly skilled staff to style your hair. It’s a fun, welcoming and relaxed environment and there is no other place like it in Melbourne, so it does really blow you away!
What exciting things can we expect from The Blowout Bar this year?
The Blowout Bar is in such high demand so we are planning to open our second store! We can’t divulge to much info, so stay tuned as its all very exciting!
