Ahead of the official start of Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Week , the city has been ramping up with lead in events and for the very first time, Melbourne’s west has been added to the extensive list of venues for VAMFF, and they’ve kickstarted the partnership with a very colourful bang. Highpoint Shopping Centre, specifically the newly opened west wing, served as the location for the unveiling of The Colour Studio – a pop up hub for all things fashionable that will run for the entirety of the festival.
The space has been brought to life by the amazingly talented artist Hayley Scilini, transforming the white walls of the space into vibrant, angular shapes – perfect for embodying the creative, colourful spirit of the festival. Says Hayley, “The west is one of the most interesting and exciting creative hubs in Melbourne, I’ve been inspired by its individuality. I love working with strong colours and shapes and Highpoint is the perfect fit for such a statement piece.”
On hand to celebrate the launch was Highpoint Fashion Ambassador, Nadia Bartel, VAMFF CEO Graeme Lewsey, and Maribrynong mayor Grant Miles, who all spoke excitedly about what’s ahead. What’s that, you ask? Interior design workshops, nail art tutorials, style seminars, and pop up runways, just to name a few.
We were treated to a spectacularly choreographed runway presentation of the hottest trends from the centre’s retailers, heavy on prints and bold shapes. The looks were inspired by the space, and celebrate the boldness that we love from the festival.
If you want to explore the space, and we suggest you do, it’s open right now and will run until Sunday 23 March. You’ll find it outside David Jones on Level 2 of the Highpoint Shopping Centre.
