The National Gallery of Victoria’s ridiculously popular Drop by Drawing sessions will hold their finale (for now) this Sunday, 26 January. After attracting enormous crowds throughout the latter months of last year, the NGV International has offered four new sessions this January, as part of the Melbourne Now Children’s Festival. Thus far, artists Minna Gilligan, Mark Hilton and Jess Johnson have graced the art enthusiasts of Melbourne with their presence and guidance, and to cap the season off, Tim Fleming will present a special Drop by Drawing session in the Grollo Equiset Garden this weekend.
For those of you unfamiliar with the craze, Drop by Drawing is an initiative aimed at encouraging NGV visitors to explore and embrace their creative side. Armed with pencils and sketchpads, participants have the chance to seek inspiration from both the treasured works surrounding them, including Nicholas Poussin’s The Crossing of the Red Sea, and the prominent contemporary Australian artists who will be sharing some of their drawing techniques.
The final Drop by Drawing session will be held at NGV International in the 18th Century Galleries this Sunday from 2-4pm. As always, all ages and abilities are welcome, and participants can come and go as they please. This is meant to be a bit of fun, but if you pick up some skills and tips along the way, well…bonus.
