Everyone can relate to those family Christmas’ where there are some seriously awkward photos taken with family and friends. Think Bridget Jones and Mr Darcy’s Rudolph the reindeer jumper and then you’re thinking exactly what Target are thinking this Christmas in their new social media campaign #totesawksxmas.
The new social campaign is a witty and humorous take on those awkward Christmas photos with family and friends and those hilariously bad seasonally inspired outfits, as well as those awkward moments from Christmas gifts that sometimes arise post unwrapping.
Target launched the campaign last week with various events in Melbourne and Sydney where members of the public were able to visit the #totesawksxmas photobooth to take their very own photo dressed in their best (depends on your fashion tastes…) Christmas outfits.
One of the drivers of the campaign comes as a result of a survey commissioned by Target and information collected by Global research agency Ipsos.
According to the nationally representative survey results* 63 per cent of people have received a Christmas gift they didn’t want. While 16 per cent have worn a piece of gifted clothing they thought was embarrassing! Whilst it is the thought that counts, the survey also discovered that 34 per cent of people admitted to returning or re-gifting a Christmas present in the past.
However, the solution of ‘regifting’ can be awkward in itself with seven per cent of people having made the monumental mistake of giving a gift to the person who gave it to them in the first place. Furthermore, 30 per cent of people also conceded that they have felt embarrassed watching someone open a gift they didn’t like.
Target is helping customers avoid these awkward moments with the Perfect Gift Online App. By entering a few details about the gift recipient, the Perfect Gift app (target.com.au/perfectgift) will provide a short list of suitable gift ideas, taking out the guesswork.
With a huge range of gift ideas for any budget including clothing, accessories, homewares, toys and entertainment, shoppers are in a powerful position of being able to select gifts that friends and family are sure to love, plus items that shoppers will want to wrap up and give themselves! This means that those awkward moments can be avoided this Christmas.
