Net-A-Porter, the world’s premier online luxury fashion retailer, today announced that it is the exclusive global online stockist for Esteban Cortazar’s anticipated second collection – consisting of 23 pieces, including dresses, skirts, tops, jackets, jewellery and shoes in a colour palette of charcoal, black and grey.
“The idea from the beginning was for the collection to be trans-seasonal and work throughout the year, in different countries and climates globally, and for every piece to be versatile and translate easily from day to night,” says Esteban Cortazar. “There are lots of sporty separates that are great for layering which can be transformed into different looks by removing some of the layers, changing the accessories, shoes or adding some of my jewellery to give everything a tougher or more sophisticated edge. This collection is very much an evolution from the first, and explores the dichotomy between the sensual gestures of the female form and lines and angles that frame the body. The use of razor blade cuts creates a subtle motion, evoking the elegant and graceful movements of a manta ray and the tranquillity and strength of Tadao Ando spaces which inspired this collection. It’s a reaction towards the madness and noise around us.”
As with his debut collection last year, Cortazar worked closely with NET-A-PORTER’s Fashion Director, Holli Rogers, who offered the talented designer mentoring from a retail standpoint. “It has been amazing to work with Esteban this closely as he has incredible creative ideas yet he’s so open to suggestions,” says Rogers. “He has great vision when it comes to fabric and cut and a phenomenal eye for colour combining which is obvious in this collection. Plus, his sporty take on fashion is exactly where the industry is going. The entire process has been a true collaboration between designer and retailer and we’re proud to pioneer this way of working with emerging talent.”
“Working with Holli and the NET-A-PORTER team has allowed me to understand more about all the different women around the world, their needs and how they have reacted to my work previously,” adds Cortazar. “I think in today’s world, it is not so much about pin pointing one type of woman to cater to as a designer. Women have so many characteristics that make up who they are, and what I love about NET-A-PORTER is that it allows me to reach out to these women – and on a global level too.”
Cortazar unveiled his first ready-to-wear line in 2002 at the age of 18 to great acclaim. In 2007, he was appointed Chief Creative Director of French fashion house Emanuel Ungaro, before departing from the label in 2009. The Colombian-born designer launched his eponymous label on NET-A-PORTER in September 2012 to huge commercial success, with sales in over 40 countries. Bestsellers included his cut-out satin and leather dress, a blush stretch-crepe and rose-gold lamé tee and directional pieces such as the ‘Cady’ jumpsuit with its adjustable cape-effect back. Esteban Cortazar’s second collection is available exclusively on www.net-a-porter.com.
