As well as being one of the top designers in the world today, Giorgio Armani is a keen patron of the arts. As part of his support for emerging talent among young artists, Emporio Armani has partnered with the National Art School in support of emerging artists through major sponsorship of the National Art School Postgraduate Exhibition.
The Emporio Armani National Art School Postgraduate Exhibition 2012 ran in December, featuring the works of graduating students from the Master of Fine Art and Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) programs. National Art School Gallery Curator and Manager Katie Dyer and Postgraduate Coordinator Dr John Di Stefano then selected works from the Exhibition to tour the Sydney, Melbourne and Perth Emporio Armani stores.
“We are honoured to have this outstanding relationship with Emporio Armani, a brand that truly values innovation and creativity”, says Professor Anti Taylor, Director of the National Art School. “Emporio Armani recognises the importance of investing in creativity and excellence, and the Postgraduate Exhibition of the National Art School Fine Art programme definitely delivers on both of these attributes.”
Last week, it was Melbourne’s turn to house the exciting pieces from some of Australia’s top emerging artists. The who’s who of Melbourne’s social scene packed into the Emporio Armani store located at the ‘Paris end’ of Collins Street to view the selected art work. The unique pieces were displayed separately in the minimalist interior, allowing the guests to focus on the talent of each artist. While the modern pieces were somewhat juxtaposed against the sleek Armani designs, the art added an interesting element to the store and provided much debate amongst guests.
It’s fantastic to see a global brand as big as Armani supporting the talent of emerging artists in Australia, and we look forward to following the careers of these exciting artists with much interest.
