Come and celebrate Multicultural Arts Victoria’s 10th birthday with a day of music, dancing, food and art. On the 16th of June, Emerge Festival, will be hosting an all-day block party at Fitzroy Town Hall. As part of Refugee Week, the festivities are being held in order to promote “diversity, social inclusion, respect and the breaking down of racism.”
There are a plethora of musical acts from all over the globe lined up to help you feel the rhythms and get your body grooving. And, once you’ve had enough of the electro-Tongan beats, the Persian hip-hop or the ethio-jazz band, Jazmaris & Guests, you can head to vibrant marketplace and eat traditional food from an abundance of countries.
Running from 12 until 5, there are also workshops running on Napier Street, for you to fulfil your desire to learn Columbian Cooking or Polynesian Log Drumming. The festivities are also kid-friendly, with hair braiding, henna tattoos or Dreamtime Story Telling by Kutcha Edwards, Indigenous singer and songwriter.
So, come along, eat some food, have a boogie and rejoice in the diversity of Melbourne and all that it has to offer!
