One of the most anticipated shows of the week, The Innovators showcases the next generation of Australian fashion talent. This year’s crop of emerging designers didn’t disappoint, with strong collections proving the future of Australian fashion is in good hands.
LEROY NGUYEN
The master of the silhouette, Leroy Nguyen knows how to make a statement. Showing a strong understanding of the female form, Nguyen balances the line between fashion forward and commercially appealing like a seasoned pro. His Candy Shop collection was a beautiful presentation of form fitting tailoring, and statement making volume Nguyen is becoming quickly known for. A designer who is only going to get better with each collection, definitely put Leroy Nguyen on your one to watch list.
ELISSA MCGOWAN
Elissa McGowan’s collection was inspired by a mix of the 60’s, surrealism and work by artist Francis Bacon. Beautiful smokey prints, sheer paneling and delicate layering created a collection which mixed feminine and masculine elements to great success. Backless tops and sheer dipping panels were used to emphasise the back while winding prints and detailing echoed landscapes viewed from above.
PAUL SCOTT
Paul Scott presented a menswear collection with a twist. Tailored lines met street style slouch. Plaids and high rise city scape prints added an interesting edge. Silhouettes varied with loose t-shirts, sleeveless jackets and baggy shorts appealing to broad range of styles.
YING YUAN
Standout gothic inspired prints, laser cut detailing, tailored silhouettes and sheer paneling, Ying Yuan’s collection had it all. Showing an appreciation for the female form, Yuan’s deep v-neck cuts, short hemlines and peek-a-boo cuts added interesting dimensions to the collection.
VINH NGUYEN
Bold digital prints and impeccable tailoring were the order of the day for Vinh Nguyen’s collection. Strong visuals were juxtaposed against classic styles and silhouettes. New life was breathed into the traditional suit with splashed of unexpected colour detailing.
INDER DHILLON
Sequins, metallics and zips were the focus of Inder Dhillon’s collection. Based on a palette of deep raspberry, light silver, black and bright pink, beautiful draping, luxe fabrications and modern tailoring showcased Dhillon’s skill and understanding of the female form.
