Insecta Botanica – SS13/14
Serpent & the Swan’s latest collection was inspired by the idea of growth and inherent relationship between plant and human life cycles. Designers Hayley and Lauri Smith took their fascination with the anatomy of creatures and their mystical incarnations and created a collection which imitated the hardness and softness found in nature.
Models stood amongst display cases containing Serpent & the Swan jewellery, coppered bones, agate crystal and plant samples. The palette centered around black, lavender, wheat and dirty mint. Dresses in soft dresses, relaxed t-shirts, sheer wide trousers were juxtaposed with leather harnesses and leather bras. Organza, loose mesh knits and raw linen were all manipulated to add an interesting element to the collection.
The range featured a self-designed Botania print inspired by 18th Century botanical plates, insect dissection and anatomical drawings of teeth. Trademark detailing such as teeth and skull buttons, horse head zippers and bone details showed a great attention to detail.
Serpent & the Swan will appeal to those looking for a something a little darker and quirky this Spring/Summer.
