The latest issue of NET-A-PORTER’s The Edit, packs a sartorial punch with everyone’s favourite shoe queen playing cover girl, Sarah Jessica Parker.
TThe power issue combines a high fashion shoot and interview with Parker, dolled up in all those fine NET-A-PORTER goodies, Theory, Balmain, Dolce & Gabbana, Saint Laurent and Victoria Beckham. It’s a return to her purveyor of style moniker, made famous by her alter ego, Carrie Bradshaw. Dressed in a dusty pink Victoria Beckham dress and a slashed black Haider Ackermann frock, Parker looks every bit the power icon the issue sets her out to be.
Of her Sex and the City days, Parker says “I think it certainly encouraged women to share more candidly. I don’t know if it empowered women. I hesitate to say whether we were the pioneers or whether we gave voice to something that was there, but I recognize there was a connection.”
These days, Parker is currently busy with her work as a UNICEF ambassador and as a producer on hit TV show Girls. She declared she was a huge fan of Hilary Clinton. “I mean this with all sincerity, I will be very, very sad if she doesn’t choose to run [to be America’s first female president]. I think she has so much to offer and is equipped to do it well, to be thoughtful, reasonable, strong, authoritative, empathetic.”
Inside the realms of a designer fashion shoot she may be wearing Saint Laurent on her feet but in reality, the high heeled days are over. She says “For ten or so years, I literally ran in heels. I worked 18-hour days and never took them off. I wore beautiful shoes, some better made than others, and never complained. I went to a foot doctor and he said, “Your foot does things it shouldn’t be able to do. That bone there… You’ve created that bone. It doesn’t belong there.” Don’t say she didn’t warn you.
