The racing season exploded in an array of lights and colour as Carousel welcomed guests to the launch of the BMW Caufield Cup racing season. With Clint Simon and Jesinta Campbell co-hosting the night, the gala was a perfectly set scene of sophistication and elegance that the spring racing season embodies.
Announcing a new partnership with BECK property development group, Chairman of Racing Victoria Mike Simmons pointed out the evening’s centerpiece – a brand new BMW M6 in steel blue. The two announced the “Class of Caufield 2012” which included the likes of jockeys, trainers, bookies and even the host herself, Jesinta, before the Whitehouse Institute of Design award was showcased.
Designers and retailers showcased outfits that encapsulated the essence of racing season. Outfits were a mix of elegance and show-stopping sartorial style, beginning with simple and straight, flattering lines in black and white and ending with avant-garde worthy head-to-toe prints.
Men’s suiting certainly got the crowd talking, as a model walked a pale pink double-breasted jacket with tight white pants. Another crowd favourite was the contrasting pink pants and a windowpane blazer paired with a checkered shirt, tie and pocket-square.
The overall trend seemed to be white and lace. Lace was seen as an addition to an outfit with elaborate headpieces or skirts, adding an element of sophistication. Outfits in head-to-toe white were also presented as well as silk, multi-tone paneled dresses and a splash of colour added to the palette.
The gala also hosted a season first—this year there would be both a male and female racing season ambassador, Evan Spargo and Hetty Kate.
Evan commented on becoming the face of racing season as a “very humbling experience, quite overwhelming and that (he) would do the best job possible.” Hetty felt similar, stating, “it’s like a dream, and I’m a little speechless.”
Guests were then treated to an array of food and drinks, thoroughly taking advantage of the Schweppes mixology bar on deck all night. Carousel offered the perfect setting as guests enjoyed the night away to live music under the awe of the city skyline.
Co-host Clint took time out to tell Couturing what he enjoyed most about the racing season. “Just being involved in it all. I grew up around the Caufield area, and going along each year with my brother and now obviously as this (host and personality.)”
The evening was a wonderful night of extravagance and a spectacular way to kick off the spring racing season.
