As the new year starts to roll in and with L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival just peeking around the corner, fashionistas all over the world are waiting to see what new talent Australia has got to offer to the fashion world this year. Keeping Josh Goot, Dion Lee and Sass and Bide (just to name a few) out of mind, here are some must watch and must have Australian labels for this year.

Fame Agenda

This Melbourne based label is recognised for their powerful prints, feminine silhouettes and fashion forward designs. Fame Agenda is definitely making a statement in the Australian market, creating a following founded on the principles of individuality and uniqueness. Showcasing their last collection, ‘Lover’s War’ with Australia’s very first holographic runway, and soon to debut their new collection at L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival, Fame Agenda has established a strong foundation in the Australian fashion circle and will be a name not soon forgotten.

From Britten P/L

With a philosophy that stems from the utility and history of menswear, From Britten P/L creates garments with complex designs with a minimalistic veneer that encompass style, form and functionality.  Having only been around since 2010, the label has already proven a penchant for many fashion conscious men.

Kuwaii

Kuwaii presents an old way of dressing; being able to wear a garment or shoe a thousand times in different ways. The associated aesthetics is very relaxed and almost organic with a subtle sense of quirk and whimsy, which in many ways reflects cultural characteristics of Melbourne itself.

Queen Khan

A label that creatively experiments with printed designs, colour and textural fabrics definitely sets itself apart from others. Although still very premature in the industry, Queen Khan has proven popular with the eclectic Melbourne fashion foreground, creating aesthetically distinctive designs to evoke personality, individuality and creative flare in its wearers.

TSEN

This label prides itself on form fitting lines, timeless silhouettes and avant-garde designs. TSEN’s collections are mostly black in colour with a play with texture blocking and flattering drape work. Due to showcase his very own exhibition in this year‘s L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival, TSEN is giving the Australian fashion scene that rare, dark and unconventional edge not very often seen in the Australian fashion market.

Zoologie

With their quirky take on traditional causal staple pieces, playing with patchwork of different textures and patterns on classic silhouettes, Zoologie is definitely the epitome of Melbourne street fashion. Creating statement pieces that are functional and comfortable yet still embrace the cool and unique elements of Melbourne fashion.

Cameo

Cameo is definitely making a name for themselves in women’s wear, showcasing collections of feminine shapes, bold detailing and a unique aesthetic. Only two years old, Cameo is stocked all over Australia and New Zealand and is already proving popular with the Australian market.

Sara Phillips

With collections that focus on print, soft tailoring and luxurious fabrications, Sara Phillips has established a cult following for her feminine designs. With a rejection to current trends, Sara creates garments with a perfect balance of classic tailoring with fluid and flattering fits. Her prints bring back a sense of romanticism for the modern woman, proving this label a great asset and a must watch for this year!

Limedrop

Showcasing collections with a playful take on garments of abnormal proportions and a focus on clear lines and bold colours. Limedrop has proven a gem in such an eclectic industry, producing unique designs with lots of quirk and wit.

Sturm and Drang by Kaylene Milner

Throughout her years of study, Kaylene has established herself an aesthetic of luxury, in particular luxury in the form of highly personal and detailed designs with rare and exotic materials. Her work always seems to surprise with her amazing handmade techniques, impeccable tailoring, knitwear and leather work. Her experimentation with mixing different exotic textures and materials have led her to be considered one of Australia’s leading innovators in fashion.
